Thermal Energy HQ has been named the winner of the Cooling category in the 2027 AHR Expo Innovation Awards for SkyRadiance, its radiative cooling system. Winners in ten industry categories are chosen each year to represent the most innovative products and technologies in the HVACR market.
SkyRadiance sends heat to the cold sky through the infrared spectrum. It pairs a passive radiative cooling film with Thermal Energy HQ's patented fluid management system to deliver active cooling with minimal energy input. The Cooling category finalists were Johnson Controls (YORK YK-HT Two-stage Centrifugal Chiller) and Nu-Calgon (Cool Worx).
The 2027 AHR Expo takes place January 25–27, 2027, in Chicago, where SkyRadiance will be on display at Booth N1056. One overall Product of the Year will be selected from the ten category winners and announced at a reception during the show. Thermal Energy HQ is a U.S. manufacturer based in Oxford, Michigan, focused exclusively on thermal energy solutions for commercial, multifamily and light commercial buildings.
Thermal Energy HQ designs and manufactures modular thermal energy storage and thermal systems at its facility in Oxford, Michigan. Its Thermal Tanks ship in parts and are assembled on site, so storage can be placed in mechanical rooms, basements and rooftops that a welded tank cannot reach, and combined for larger capacity.
Thermal storage holds thermal energy from a heat pump, boiler, solar thermal or waste-heat source and releases it when the building needs hot water, heating or cooling, which lets equipment run steadier and shift load away from peak periods.
The product line includes modular Thermal Tanks, All-In-One thermal systems, a residential integrated system and PowerPanel PVT collectors that produce electricity and capture heat from one panel.
Every project starts with a fit review. The team supports piping configurations, heat exchangers, controls and incentive guidance, and hands sizing and code decisions to the building's engineer and contractor.
The AHR Expo Innovation Awards are presented annually in ten industry categories, including Cooling, to recognize innovative products and technologies submitted by HVACR manufacturers. Entries are evaluated by a panel of third-party judges made up of ASHRAE members on innovative design, creativity, real-world application and potential market impact.
The 2027 winners were announced by AHR Expo on October 15, 2026. Winning products are featured at the 2027 AHR Expo in Chicago, January 25–27, 2027, held alongside the ASHRAE Winter Conference.
